Extraverts are sociable and enjoy large groups and gatherings. They are talkative, assertive and energetic, they like excitement and stimulation, and tend to come across as cheerful, smiling, optimistic, and happy. In Western culture, the salesperson is viewed as a typical example of the extravert personality type.

According to personality experts Paul Costa and Robert McCrae, introverts are not the opposite of extraverts but people who lack extravert traits. Introverts are more reserved and independent and they often prefer to be alone but they are not necessarily shy, unfriendly, or inactive. Neither are they unhappy or pessimistic.

The OCEAN questionnaire will tell you whether you are extraverted, outgoing, and high-spirited, introverted, reserved and serious, or like the majority of people, somewhere in-between. It will also describe the likely implications of your personality characteristics on aspects of job performance such as leading and supervising, relating and networking, and presenting and communicating information.
